MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON TV

From the year 2014, MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON program series has been produced and aired 24 episodes, featuring various themes from Japanese traditional culture to the latest information of J-POP culture on international broadcasting, NHK WORLD/jibtv channel, covering approximately 208.37 million households in 150 regions and countries worldwide. This season, with the collaboration of MAFF, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery of Japan, and MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON project, the program series will be renewed as a pop informational program mainly featuring on Japanese cuisine and its gastronomic culture. The first episode of MOSHI MOSHI NIPPON TV will focus on “ONIGIRI” (Rice ball). Program reporters will visit a traditional Onigiri restaurant, new style stores, and also introduce the newest trends information. The main MC will stay as J-pop singer KYARY PAMYU PAMYU, the KAWAII icon.

Besides being one of the main ingredients of the Japanese diet, rice continues to evolve into other forms of food. Among them are traditional Japanese snacks, or OKASHI. For hundreds of years, many different types of OKASHI are made with rice, including MOCHI-OKASHI that uses cooked rice known as SUAMA as well as SENBEI, which uses rice to bake flat snacks. This segment introduces you to various OKASHI, from traditional snacks to more recent, western-style snacks.

Japanese DONBURI, which rice bowls that include various toppings, is an inexpensive, simple, and well-loved fast food! In this episode, we'll find out what DONBURI means to the Japanese people by visiting famous shops, from a historic "UNA (eel) DON" restaurant to one of Japan's most famous GYU (beef) DON chain restaurants. Local Cuisine from Ishikawa Prefecture

With the Hokuriku Shinkansen beginning operation this year, all eyes are on Ishikawa Prefecture's Kanazawa City. During the Edo period, Kanazawa was a bustling city known as Kaga, and the local Kaga cuisine is one of Japan's most famous and beautiful local cuisines. In this segment, we'll introduce you to Kaga cuisine, which uses local seafood and vegetables from the surrounding area. Also, when it comes to Kaga cuisine, you can't forget the beautiful bowls that hold the delicious dishes. These bowls are made with a technique called Kutani-yaki, and we went behind the scenes to see how these beautiful creations are made.

Tokyo's Local Cuisine

Although you may not expect it, Tokyo, the heart of modern-day Japan, also has unique local cuisine that has existed for many years. This time, we'll be focusing on Chanko-nabe, a famous dish that was originally created specifically for sumo wrestlers, Tsukuda-ni, a perfect companion for rice made with seafood caught from Tokyo Bay, and Monja-yaki, a delicious dish that was originally created as a snack for children who lived in the working-class neighborhoods of Tokyo.
